MOTUS bug questions and answers
MOTUS Bug Board (motusbugs.com) is a free public tracker for bugs and outages in MOTUS, the FMCSA's motor carrier registration system that launched on May 19, 2026. Carriers and compliance professionals report MOTUS problems here, and Don Norman Associates staff review each report, confirm real bugs, and flag known workarounds.
Is there a list of known MOTUS bugs?
Yes. MOTUS Bug Board (motusbugs.com) keeps a public list of known MOTUS bugs. It tracks 82 issues reported by carriers and compliance professionals, and 71 of them are still open. Each issue shows its status, how many people it affects, whether a workaround is known, and when it was last updated. See the full list at motusbugs.com/issues.
Who runs MotusBugs?
MOTUS Bug Board is run by Don Norman Associates (DNA), a trucking compliance firm that has handled federal trucking filings since 1955. It is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the FMCSA or the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Is the MOTUS Bug Board part of FMCSA?
No. MOTUS Bug Board is run by Don Norman Associates. FMCSA runs MOTUS itself. This board cannot change your FMCSA record, your authority, or your filings.
How do I report a MOTUS bug?
Contact FMCSA first, because only FMCSA can fix your record or your filing.
Then report the bug on MOTUS Bug Board at motusbugs.com/report so other carriers can see it. You don't need an account. Describe what you were doing and copy any error message word for word. DNA staff review every report, and you can check on yours later at motusbugs.com/my-reports.
What is MOTUS?
MOTUS is the FMCSA's motor carrier registration system. FMCSA replaced its legacy registration tools with MOTUS on May 19, 2026. Carriers use it to get and update USDOT numbers, operating authority (MC numbers), MCS-150 updates, and related filings.
Does reporting a bug here get it fixed?
Only FMCSA can fix MOTUS. Reporting here puts the problem on a public list, lets DNA staff confirm it, and helps other carriers find out they aren't alone and whether a workaround exists.
Does DNA send these reports to FMCSA?
When DNA staff think it can help, Don Norman Associates shares reports from this board directly with FMCSA.
What do the statuses on the board mean?
Reported: A carrier reported this. DNA has not reviewed it yet.
Confirmed: DNA has confirmed this is a real MOTUS problem.
Working: A fix is in progress.
Fixed: This issue has been fixed.
When several people report the same problem, DNA merges the reports into one issue and counts everyone affected.
How do I check on a MOTUS bug I reported?
Go to motusbugs.com/my-reports and enter the email address you used when you reported it. You'll see your reports and any replies from DNA staff.
Does it cost anything to use the MOTUS Bug Board?
No. Anyone can read the board and report a bug for free, with no account.
